A Great DIY Project for Cleaning

A Great DIY Project for Cleaning

Do-it-yourself is not only a great way to spend some time, it's also an affordable way to get new things for your home. And, of course; sometimes it's just fun!

This DIY wool duster from 3191 Miles Apart is straightforward and simple, the hardest part being that you need to know how to use a sewing machine. It's worth it, though—not only is it colorful and definitely an improvement over a regular duster, it's also machine washable, making it last much longer than a synthetic duster.

If you've been looking for a project, this is a simple house cleaning tool that will serve you well.

How-To

For this project, you'll start with wool. These can be scraps or pieces (you'll be cutting them into narrow strips) and you can choose to go with one color, multicolored, or just a hodge-podge of your favorites!

You'll also need: Velcro strips, glue, and a sewing machine.

  1. Cut the wool into small strips.
  2. Cluster some of the strips together into a small bundle and place against the back of one side of the Velcro.
  3. Sew the strips on, then add another bundle. Keep doing that until you've filled the Velcro.
  4. Glue the back of the Velcro match to the dowel and let dry.
  5. Once dry, you just attach the duster head you made from the wool to the Velcro—remove to wash!

Wool naturally attracts dust, and being able to wash and reuse it makes this project not just a quick DIY, but also an incredibly useful tool—this one's a winner.
